“Okay, Jeff. I’ll see you tomorrow. And don’t forget about Mr. Kern’s psych homework!” Sam called after his friend across the Stanford campus. He shifted the hefty weight of his messenger bag full of text books and the binders in his arms as he made his way back to his dorm. Sam been away from his family 4 months, 2 weeks, and 6 days. He’s sure he heard the low rumble of the Impala from his side street dorm but he’s passed it off as his imagination. They wouldn’t come after him, wouldn’t come visit him.

He could still hear the words, clear as day. If you walk out that door, don’t you ever come back! Hearing his own father spit those words out at him made him all the angrier. So he walked. It was the middle of nowhere, 2 am, drizzling, and dark outside. All he had was the clothes on his back, $300.00 that he saved from working dead end jobs, a backpack packed with clothes and who knows what he could throw together while his father screamed at him and his worn out duffle from the trunk of the Impala. Dean had gone after him, begged him to come back and try to talk it out but Sam just kept walking as he screamed something he didn’t even remember now over his shoulder.

Whatever he said, he wanted to take it back. He didn’t mean for it to be this bad. He could live without talking to his dad for 4 months, 2 weeks and 6 days. He’s done it before. But he’s never gone this long without talking to his brother. Twice a day for about three weeks straight he watched his phone ring as his big brother called him. Even Pastor Jim had called him, but not his own fucking father. He never picked up. Now, at least once a day he took out his phone and stared at Dean’s number, wanting nothing more to call and say sorry. He didn’t mean for it to go this way with Dean. Sam started to wonder if he should have just sucked it up and stayed with his family, with his brother. No. He had to go. He just wished he could talk to the one constant in his life.

He hasn’t even really been happy since he left. Sure, he’s joked around with his roommate but it hasn’t been real. It’s the reason he hasn’t gone to parties even though people (mostly girls) have asked him. He could almost hear what his brother would say. Oooh. Sorority chicks! I get first dibs! And that makes him smile to himself as he sits up alone in his badly lit dorm room with no company but text books. He’d asked Dean to come with him but the older brother shook his head and said no way, he couldn’t leave dad. Couldn’t leave. Dad was a grown man. He could take care of himself. No. Came Dean’s answer. Dad couldn’t take care of himself. He came in wounded half the time and it was up to Dean to stitch him back together only to find that dad left early the next morning for another hunt. Jesus Christ. It wasn’t his children’s problem to look after him. No fucking way. He was grown! He should be taking care of his kids! Bastard.

See, Sam didn’t want Dean thinking he left to get away from him, it wasn’t. It was to get away from dad. It was to get away from hunting. He missed those times he had with Dean, stuck in a badly furnished hotel room, sitting on the warped wooden floor playing card games at 4 am when all they had for stakes was slavery for a day. Sam still had one up on Dean and he was sure he’d never be able to cash in.

Hey there. This is how I picture it too. Especially the part where Sam couldn't bring himself to go to parties because the dating scene would remind him too much of Dean! No wonder he got such great exam results!!
One up on Dean...boy did he cash in later!!
Picked up a couple typos for you:
"All he had was the close on his back" - I think you meant 'clothes.'
Also: "He could still heard the words..." Should be 'hear.'
