comment fic meme!

It's the week leading up to Sam's birthday, which means *drumroll* pain! Pain and horror and terror and illness - and a wee bit of comfort too!

SPREAD THE WORD

THE RULES
→ Leave a comment here with your prompt. This is a Sam-focused hurt/comfort community, so Sam should be the one in the hurt/comforted role. Your prompts may involve sick!Sam, hurt!Sam, angsty!Sam, basically anything that results in Sam being on the receiving end of hurt/comfort. (No rules against whumping other characters as well, of course, but you have to whump Sam first. ;) )
→ In your prompt, please state your desired characters or pairings. All genres/pairings welcome, but no real-person (RPF) prompts.

Example A: “Sam, Dean, gen, set in season 2. Sam has a vision and passes out. Cue caring!Dean and limp!Sam.”
Example B: “Sam/Dean, trauma. Sam is injured on a hunt, Dean freaks out when he thinks Sam might be dead.”
→ Post as many prompts as you like - but one prompt per comment. If you've got a couple, comment with each separately.
→ Prompts can be as short or detailed as you like. Remember though - more detail means less wriggle room for the writer, which might lower the chances of someone picking up your prompt.
→ Go through the prompts! If you find one you like, write a fic for it. There's no limit to how many users can reply to a prompt, or how many prompts someone can write for.
→ When replying to a prompt with your comment-fic, put ‘filled’ in your subject line and then anything else you want, like a title if you have one/part numbers. It’s not a big deal if you forget this step, but it will make it easier for people to find your fic.
→ Anon posting enabled.
→ NO SPOILERS FOR UNAIRED EPISODES.
→ Play nice - no flaming and no character bashing, period. Any comments that break this rule will be deleted without warning.
→ Feedback is catnip for writers. Leave some author-love!
→ No spam comments.
→ Contact one of the mods if you have a question.
→ Spread the Sam love - pimp this meme!
→ Have fun!

Same Time, Same Place by [livejournal.com profile] twoskeletons
Highlight to Reveal Summary - Spoilers for 6.18 [Sam & Castiel... Cas desperately needs to power up a lot and often to fight his war, and the soul of Lucifer's vessel is the most powerful one around. Sam helps him willingly, but it's still extremely unpleasant and draining.]

And Thus Was a Giant Felled by [livejournal.com profile] running_hot
Tall guys constantly get roped into changing light bulbs when shorter humans would need to get a ladder -- like the bulbs in the twelve-foot kitchen ceiling at Jess's parents' house. Sam really should have known better than to stand on a swivel chair to do it.

A Sore Topic by [livejournal.com profile] phx69
Highlight to Reveal Summary - Spoilers for 6.18. [Sam, who is the very definition of a novice rider, had to ride 20 miles to Colt's and 20 miles back. I would love me some saddle sore, limping Sam.]

Here It Comes, There It Goes Again by [livejournal.com profile] lavishsqualor
What with detoxes and resoulings, Sam's memories of the panic room can't be good. So it's unfortunate that they are under some supernatural siege at Bobby's and retreating into the panic room and closing the door is the only way to be safe.

Better On Our Own by [livejournal.com profile] si_star_x
Small fracture in a limb--not OBVIOUSLY broken, but hurts like hell, and no, you really can't use the limb. Sam gets it checked, but the first x-ray misses it.

Carried Home by [livejournal.com profile] samidha
Highlight - Spoilers for 6.18. [Dean, after hearing how soul juice helps Castiel, gets the bright idea to use his own soul to help Sam with the whole wall thing ... And if that isn't Sam-hurty enough for this comm, make the process of healing Sam's soul involve remembering hell. Bonus points if the fallout from this involves le classic telepathic soul-bond.]

Visible Evidence by [livejournal.com profile] authoressnebula
Sam's always spent a lot of time online, researching this and that, even when there's no immediate hunt. Dean doesn't think there's anything significant about it now. Though Sam's getting obsessed. Dean wakes up at three, four in the morning to the glow of the laptop screen and the tap of the keyboard. exhausted!sam

A Certain Beginning by [livejournal.com profile] mimblexwimble
AU Pilot. As horrible as the situation is, Dean's still sort of glad to know that 22 years later he can still carry his baby sister out of a burning building, even if she's now a heavily pregnant amazon.

Shot Down in Flames by [livejournal.com profile] winchesterhaunt
Highlight to reveal - spoilers for 6.18. [In the final shootout, both guns were fired. Dean's shot found it's mark. The Phoenix's shot went wide...and hit Sam.]

Hell Shall Not Wash Us Away [livejournal.com profile] brosedshield
The problem with permanent damage to the soul is that death does nothing to fix it. The wall lasts through Sam's life, and he and Dean are in their shared heaven, but there begin to be cracks and fissures. Sam stumbles from happy memories into memories of hell. And because this part of heaven is actually constructed of memory, this is shaking the fabric of things. Just Dean and Sam's heaven for now, but it's going to spread. Cas has a responsibility to heaven; he's going to have to seal off this part and set it adrift. Dean has the choice to leave if he wants to before that happens, but do we really think he'll take it? Cue Dean and Sam in their own bubble apocalypse, where the islands of sanity are fewer and farther between every day.

Panic by [livejournal.com profile] ratherastory
What with detoxes and resoulings, Sam's memories of the panic room can't be good. So it's unfortunate that they are under some supernatural siege at Bobby's and retreating into the panic room and closing the door is the only way to be safe.

balance good, everything good by [livejournal.com profile] de_nugis
Sam and Dean are sparring and Dean slips/misjudges and cracks one of Sam's ribs. Sam doesn't mention it.

Unravelling by [livejournal.com profile] emmram
Highlight to read - spoilers for 6.18 [Castiel has become addicted to the whole soul-touching thing, and Sam's soul? That's something special he can't get enough of. That doesn't make it any more pleasant for Sam.]

Along Every Horizon by [livejournal.com profile] twoskeletons
If Dean were to die on Sam now I don’t think Sam would ... fade, get killed by some random monster, not out of any suicidal drive, but just because he was having trouble paying attention to details like food or sleep or ravening creatures with lots of big, nasty teeth.

Kiss it All Better by [livejournal.com profile] sakura_no_mi
Sam and Dean are having sex and it goes all wrong. Sam falls off the bed and then manages to slam his head against the head board when he and Dean try again. Dean feels guilty and goes overboard in trying to help him recover.

You Have One Saved Message by [livejournal.com profile] killabeez
After Sam gets his phone back, it's time for a new one. The phone company's awesome enough to retrieve his contacts, his address book, his games, his photos, oh, and one voicemail he's had saved for what's now going on almost three years. Dean gets a hold of the new phone with all of this stuff first. Dean hears The Voicemail first. Dean is so not cool with it. Because to keep an email for beyond fourteen days, someone's gotta keep listening to it and making it fresh and resetting the delete date. Which means Sam's still been listening to it.

nothing left to lose by [livejournal.com profile] sikeminatural
When Sam is pulled from Hell by some unknown force (up to the author) a year after the showdown, he has his soul and goes to find Dean who is not living with Lisa but alone, and still hunting. Dean takes him in but its easy to see that Dean depsises Sam, he beats him, verbally abuses him, uses his memories of Hell to hurt him and blames Sam for everything that has happened. Sam becomes brainwashed and at first fights back but then starts to accept it. Would love if Cas or Bobby come and save Sam and make Dean see the error of his ways!

Never Buy Yellow Shoes by [livejournal.com profile] tversan
Sam buys a pair of cursed shoes that squeeze his precious little feet. He hobbles around, unable to take the wretched things off and they seem to get smaller and smaller the more he tries.

Heart of Stone by [livejournal.com profile] mamapranayama
A curse slowly turns Sam into stone. Frist his feet, then his legs - working its way up until he's completely motionless, cold hard rock. Your descision whether or not he's accompanied, whether the curse is broken, or whether he's simply left to turn to stone alone.

Some Guys Have All the Luck by [livejournal.com profile] si_star_x
Gen. S1-S3. Sam passes a Kidney Stone... or a series of them (your choice whether there's only one or several of them) -- and possibly has a kidney infection on top of it. Just give me whimper-y, tear-y Sam trying to piss and failing and the little he manages to pass is bloody and feels like shards of burning glass.

Let it Bleed by [livejournal.com profile] sakura_no_mi
Sam got into a fight (with a person or a monster), he's roughened up a bit, sore, bruised, scratched and dirty, and he really, really doesn't have any strength left. Dean drags him (carries, really) to a motel room, undresses him, grabs a wet washcloth and starts to clean him up in silence. His touches go from caring to sensuous to heated while all the time being very slow, deliberate and careful. Sam lies there and takes it, mesmerized by his brother's touch, his breath catching and heart beating faster.

To Die For a Memory by [livejournal.com profile] authressnebula
Season five. Sam is captured by a Djiin or some similar creature that keeps its prey docile by trapping them in a mental prison. Whatever the brain spits up as a treasured, wonderful memory becomes the gilded prison that keeps you docile and too happy to fight back. Dean saves the day and kills the creature, but Sam won't wake up. Desperate, Dean whips up some dreamroot tea and goes in after him.

Out of the Dark by [livejournal.com profile] samidha
Sam accidentally gets trapped in the panic room for reasons up to the author. Dean doesn't find him until Sam's in the midst of a flashback with Accusing!Dean and doesn't recognize real!Dean. Dean has to talk him back to reality.

Fade, Far Away, Dissolve, and Quite Forget by [livejournal.com profile] minviendha
Gen or Wincest AU of "The End"- In "The End" when Dean tells Sam that they should stay away from one another, Sam takes it to heart. He cuts off all ties with Bobby and any other mutual acquaintances in order to avoid inadvertently having contact with Dean. Not because he doesn't WANT to see Dean (he does) but he knows that Dean doesn't want to see HIM, and he's pretty sure he's a curse to anyone who cares about him. So it's just better that he disappear.

All is Fine by [livejournal.com profile] moviegeek03
Teen!Chesters. Dean's away on a hunt with Caleb and with Dean gone there's no buffer between Sam and John. Sam isn't meaning to be all angsty and rebelling against his Dad but the new school he's in he's having a hard time because he's getting bullied almost constantly and it's hard hiding bruises and cuts from his Dad but he manages somehow. He didn't want to tell Dean because he doesn't want to appear weak in his eyes and he sure as hell doesn't want to tell his Dad because he knows what his Dad will say No son of mine just get's bullied. Cue John not being a total dick but somehow finding out what Sam's been going through and comforts him/takes care of the problem.

He Ain't Heavy by [livejournal.com profile] beamin_sunshine
After getting his soul back, or maybe after a couple seizures, Sam wakes up in Dean's bed, which is definitely not where he was when he went to sleep. Sam is embarrassed, even though Dean doesn't really mind all that much. But then it keeps happening, with Sam never remembering getting up. Now Dean's starting to get a little annoyed because, as much as he loves the kid, Sam is not the best person to share a bed with, he moves around and makes noises and clings, so Dean gets him his own hotel room, just so he can get some sleep for once. But even that doesn't keep Sam away. As mangled as his soul is, once the brain is shut down, it's going to go find it's mate. Gen, please.

Big Things, Small Packages by [livejournal.com profile] winchesterhaunt
2.06, No Exit. H.H. Holmes doesn't usually take men, but he is getting dangerously close to his lair. Sam's trapped in a space nearly to tight for him to turn his head. His knees ache from being crammed up against the top, his scalp is bleeding, he's pretty sure his wrist is messed up worse, there's a hysterical woman with him for company, and all he can do is wait and hope for Dean and Jo to find him.

Points of Authority by [livejournal.com profile] kiscinca
So the boys have just gotten back together after taking a break, and they're already arguing with each other, or really, Dean's arguing with Sam while Sam's attempting to not argue but still getting pissed off at Dean. Then Dean throws down the trump card: that Castiel was the one who saved Dean, not Sam. Sam was obviously too busy screwing Ruby.

Really Bad Day at Black Rock by [livejournal.com profile] gwendolynd
Dean has to cut off one of Sam's limbs.

Just One of Those Weeks by [livejournal.com profile] authoressnebula
Sam is having a really, really, really, crappy week and just needs a hug...

Dean saves the day and kills the creature, but Sam won't wake up. Desperate, Dean whips up some dreamroot tea and goes in after him. He finds Sam reliving the same memory over and over again - the two of them as kids, playing hooky from training, laying out in a field of grass on a summer day watching clouds and wrestling and just being BROTHERS.

Until Death Do Us Part by [livejournal.com profile] phx69

Meg captures the boys -- somehow -- and decides to have some fun with them -- because she's crazy. And as she goes to work on Sam, she somehow accidentally triggers a Hell seizure. Her reaction: Ooh, Sammy. Twice the bang for the buck. Let's do that again!

FILLED: He Ain't Heavy Pt.3

[identity profile] beamin-sunshine.livejournal.com 2011-05-03 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
It's after two and a half weeks that Dean bites the bullet.

"What's the room number?" Sam asks when Dean gets back and drops a set of keys in his hand.

Dean chews his lip, feeling incredibly guilty for doing this but knowing that if he wakes up one more time at four in the morning with Sam causing it, he's going to say/do something he'll regret and wind up hurting Sam worse than a little case of hurt feelings will. "Yours is eleven, mine's twelve."

Sam is silent.

Cringing, Dean risks a glance after he parks.

"You... got us separate rooms?" Sam says after a second, and underlying the surprise is... yep, a little hurt.

"Dude, don't take it personally, it's just that I need some sleep. I've got to get some sleep."

Sam nods curtly and gets out, waits with an impatient look while Dean opens the trunk. Then he grabs his bag and stalks towards his room, dropping his stuff to quicken the unlocking process. Dean knows a pouty little brother when he sees one and figures he should at least try to make amends if they're going to have a good travelling day tomorrow.

"Sammy, don't be like that, kid. I'm not trying to be mean, I just need one night to catch up on sleep. Okay? It's not that I don't want you around." Dean tries to reason.

He's rewarded with a door shut in his face.

... Of course, the one night he gets his bed all to himself and can sleep with out disturbance is the one night he can't fall asleep. Dean's been tossing and turning for hours and just cannot. Go. To. Sleep.

Honestly, he knows the reason.

Dean and his brother have never gotten separate hotel rooms before. A waste of money, for one thing, and... when you lead a hunter's life, it's natural to want to keep loved ones close. Especially little brothers who have nothing but a friggan wall in their head keeping their sanity in tact. Oh. The same little brother happens to be a danger magnet.

Growling, Dean throws one of the pillows at the wall.

And then something really creepy happens.

There's clicking at the door - the sound of a lockpick, Dean recognizes - and beings as exhausted as he is he doesn't think to do anything except sit up in bed with a handful of blankets like chicks in horror movies when the monster/killer is coming after them.

A tall figure slinks into the room, drops the lockpick and shuts the door with slow, zombie-like movement. Dean starts to reach for the knife behind him when the light coming from the half-way closed bathroom door reflects on the figure and Dean realizes that it's... "Sam?"

Zombie-Sam merely speeds his actions as he continues on his quest to Dean's bed where he promptly crawls over Dean and burrows under the covers, shifting to curl up against Dean like a puppy.

Blinking, Dean looks down at his sleeping brother. Who has obvious dried - and some fresh - tear tracks on his face. Well doesn't that just make Dean feel like a giant backside of a mule. Melting with guilt and concern, Dean shakes Sam's shoulder. "Hey, Sammy, you wanna wake up for me?"

Sam stirs, looking at Dean groggily.

"What's wrong? Y'alright?"

Sam still resembles a zombie, looking dead asleep except for the slitted eyes and sleepy voice: "You left."

Crap. "I'm sorry, dude. 'M here now. It's okay."

Sam closes his eyes again and snuggles closer to Dean, mumbling before sleep claims him, "You left. It was dark and you left. But I found you. It's okay 'cause I found you..."

Dean swallows hard, absentmindedly rubbing a hand up and down his little brother's back.

He doesn't sleep that night, too lost in thought over Sam and what a complete idiot Dean had to be to not take to heart that Cas had said his brother's soul felt like it had been skinned alive. Just because Sam didn't consciously remember Hell didn't mean his soul wasn't a complete mess that sought safety and love and comfort. Dean is equal parts touched and guilty over the fact that it's ingrained into Sam's most basic nature to find all those things to be associated with his older brother.

Sam doesn't remember any of it the next morning.

When he asks with apology written all over him, Dean claps him on the shoulder and buys Sam those cheesecake pancakes he likes so much at Ihop and doesn't mention the sleepwalking thing again.

To Die for a Memory Pt. 1

[identity profile] authoressnebula.livejournal.com 2011-05-03 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Argh you are KILLING ME! WHY SO MANY GOOD PROMPTS?

----------------

Nobody's come back so far. One person almost made it. He managed to tell Dean he'd gone to paradise before he died, which gave Dean the clue about what the Djinn was doing. The perfect world. Yeah, Dean had had that. Really wasn't as perfect as it could've been, but it had been decent. Apparently this Djinn was dealing the better goods.

Not anymore. It's roasting in the corner; not necessary but Dean had been feeling pissed off.

Because after he'd killed it, Sam had still wound up stuck in whatever paradise the Djinn had whipped up. So yeah, it wound up torched.

Dean lays Sam down on the dirty floor, hates to do it but he can't leave Sam physically hanging by his arms, can he? "Sam," he calls softly, but he doesn't get anywhere. Another name call, a hard shake, don't do the trick either. Sam's...stuck. And Dean doesn't have a clue how to get him out. When the Djinn died, it was supposed to have been over, dammit. And yeah, the real world's not as much fun with Lucifer in it now, and Dean barely able to look at Sam most days, but something obviously has to be holding Sam in there, or else Sam would be back by now. This is still supernaturally influenced, and Dean's willing to roast whatever it is to get Sam back. Just because he's not sure how much he likes Sam on any given day doesn't mean he's going to abandon him.

He calls Bobby. Bobby calls the Djinn a few choice names but only has one thing to offer as an idea. "If the kid's in the perfect dream world, hack the dream. You still got some of that root?"

Yes, yes Dean does. He races out to the car and grabs the jar of dreamroot, along with the bottle of Gatorade from the front seat (Sam's, but Dean really doesn't give a shit at this point) and sets about the fastest dream room mix ever made by man. It tastes like ass going down, and the tangy lemon taste of Gatorade only makes it worse. Dean full on shudders and scrunches his face up, tongue stuck out and everything.

When he manages to get his watering eyes open, he's not in a dark, dirty warehouse room anymore. He's somewhere bright, warm, and happy, if the laughter's any indication. The rusting sign advertising Coca Cola dates back to the fifties easy, and the girl offering the bottle with a bright smile has her teeth darkened with age. Dean remembers him and Sam making fun of-

Remembers. It's not a dream world, it's a memory.

And just like that, Dean knows where and when he is even before he sees the two figures racing across the field.

He'd been eighteen, Sam fourteen that summer. Their dad had left them for the day to get some serious training done. He'd demanded to see them "sweaty and sore" by the day's end, and better at hand to hand before the week was done.

They'd been sweaty and sore by the evening, all right. But it'd been because they'd raced around the countryside like idiots, wrestling and having fun. Being brothers. Dean's almost forgotten what that's like.

They're racing across the field, a real race, and Sam's legs, still shorter than Dean's for now, are still keeping up with his brother's. "Last one to the trees has to do laundry for the next month!" Dean yells behind him.

"Guess you'll have to learn how to handle stains," Sam pants but keeps pushing, almost all the way to the trees. Dean surges ahead and almost makes it before Sam tackles him. Dean howls about unfairness and cheating and in the end they're wrestling and laughing for no reason besides that they're happy.

Like it wasn't enough that Dean had sold his soul for him, that he'd made a wager with Death to get him back, that he would walk through Hell and Heaven and every place in between to keep Sam with him, Sam still couldn't believe he deserved to have anything good. To have anyone love him.

Sam and Dean are both injured on a hunt. For some reason (broken leg, maybe?) Dean can't drive, so Sam is behind the wheel. The problem is he's got a head injury/heavily bleeding wound/has been drugged/etc and is fighting to stay conscious. They've got to get out of Dodge quickly because the law is on their tails, so Dean has to try to keep an increasingly out-of-it Sam from face-planting on the steering wheel or driving them off the road. Bonus points if Dean does any/all of the following:

* Pinches Sam or pokes him in a bruise/cut/wound to wake him up
* Splashes him with bottled water
* Blasts Metallica
* Recounts epic tales of his sexual exploits
* Talks about their mom or reveals personal secrets in order to keep Sam interested and awake
* Threatens to cut Sam's hair if he passes out

FILLED: To Die for a Memory Pt. 2

[identity profile] authoressnebula.livejournal.com 2011-05-03 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Dean's almost completely forgotten what that feeling is like. Being happy. Being happy with Sam.

The younger version of himself finally pushes himself up, still laughing. He's got dirt on his cheek and grass in his hair, but he doesn't seem to mind. "It's gonna take us awhile to get back, squirt," Dean says, ruffles Sam's hair. Sam grins up at him, but he doesn't follow immediately after Dean when he rises. Which...isn't what happened. Sam had actually gotten himself up first, called Dean old. He hadn't sat there like he's sitting now. Dean's up and moving with a smile and a quick, "C'mon bro, you gonna sit there all day?"

Yeah, it looks like Sam is. Sam's just...watching Dean, a softer smile on his face. An older smile. Sam. Not the kid he'd been, but the man he is now. That's him in there.

Just as Dean makes a move forward, he blinks and suddenly it's the two of them running across the field, laughing and pushing each other further. "Last one to the trees has to do laundry for the next month!" his younger self calls.

It's a repeat. It's not even a constant memory, it's an effing repeat. His brother's going to die for a repeated memory.

That's enough to get Dean moving. By the time he reaches them, his older self's up and moving, leaving Sam to sit and watch him. "C'mon bro, you gonna sit there all day?" teen Dean asks.

"Yeah, Sammy," Dean calls softly, catching his younger brother's attention. Dean's younger doppelganger doesn't seem to take notice of him, but Sam definitely does, if his wide eyes are any indication. "You gonna sit there all day, or are you comin' back with me?" Not that Sam has a choice in the matter.

Sam slowly shakes his head. "No," he says quietly. "I'm not going with you."

Dean blinks in shock, and the next thing he knows, they're in another part of the field. Both of them are laying in the grass, watching the clouds go by. "I'm naming that one the Impala," younger Dean's saying. "It's moving pretty fast."

"You're lame," Sam says, but he nudges Dean's shoulder when he does it. Dean seems to automatically shift to let Sam move in closer. "I want to name that one Hemingway; it's short but looks like it could pack a punch."

"Geek," younger Dean says fondly, his arm swooping around to wrap around Sam's smaller shoulders. Affection, almost like a hug. God, when was the last time he'd hugged his brother?

Never, if Dean doesn't get him out of there. "Sammy, we have to go," he says firmly. "This place isn't real."

"Yes it is," Sam says, his eyes on the skies. The Dean beside him doesn't take notice of the conversation. "This place is real."

"It's a memory," Dean says, kneeling beside Sam in the grass. Sam shifts to get closer to the other Dean, and for some reason, it pisses him off. "It's a goddamn memory, Sam, from a Djinn, and it's gonna kill you if we don't get out of here now."

"I don't care," Sam whispers, and when Dean blinks, his younger self is naming a cloud after his favorite car. Sam calls him lame, and they're teasing, they're smiling, they're holding onto each other because it's the Winchester boys against the world.

FILLED: To Die for a Memory Pt. 3

[identity profile] authoressnebula.livejournal.com 2011-05-03 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
My computer completely died before; bah! *curses her computer* Might not be able to finish it all tonight but I'mma do my best...

---------------------

The urge to suddenly be the other half of that whole again surges through Dean like a tidal wave. He wants that back, too. And Sam obviously wants it because hey, it's his perfect world. Maybe...maybe there's some hope for them yet.

Not if they die here, though. Not if Sam dies here.

"Sam," Dean tries, gentler this time. Sam seems to ignore him, but he's tense in a way he wasn't before. "Sam, this world, it's not real."

"Stop saying that," Sam says angrily, and he looks like he's two seconds away from covering his ears.

"It's not real," Dean says, louder this time. Of all the times for Sam to be stubborn... "None of this is real. It's a memory, fabricated by a guy with a serious tattoo kink. I'm here to get you out to where you need to be. This isn't real, Sam."

And before Dean can continue arguing, Sam says in a very quiet voice, "I know it's not."

That throws Dean for a minute. The next minute, the two are running down the field again, laughing and wrestling over laundry duties. Dean's still got grass in his hair and he dutifully ruffles Sam's, getting dirt all up in Sam's hair. Sam doesn't seem to care in the slightest. In fact, he looks thrilled.

Dean swallows, tries again. "Then you know we have to-"

"Go."

Dean freezes. "What?"

"I said, go," Sam says, voice just as soft. He's watching Dean's younger self stand and call for Sam to come on already. "I'm not leaving."

"This isn't real-"

"I know that," Sam says, and finally turns to look at Dean. His eyes are clear but sad, old in the body of his fourteen year old self. "But I'm not leaving. This is..." He swallows and looks down at his hands. "This is perfect," he whispers. "I don't want to lose this...this you. I'm staying."

It's like a sucker punch to Dean's gut. "Sam, you're gonna die if you stay," he says, anger and fear fighting each other in his stomach. "That's how it works. You die, Sam!"

Sam doesn't say anything, and that's the second punch: Sam knows. Sam's well aware of the consequences and he doesn't care. He's willing to die to stay with this fabricated world of just him and Dean, forever in this afternoon of happiness.

There's not enough words to describe the wrong of the situation, the hopelessness that Dean feels watching. The stunned grief that his Sam is going to remain locked in this perfect world where they're-

Brothers. Sam's perfect world is a normal afternoon of him and Dean just being brothers. No demons, no training, no blood, no broken relationships. Just Sam and Dean.

And he's willing to die to have a memory of it.

"Dean," Sam says, and Dean pulls his head up. But it's the younger version of himself that Sam's trying to attract the attention of, and it happens within a second. "You're a jerk," he says, but it's with a bright smile. I love you, Winchester style.

Dean's younger face goes even younger with a soft smile. "Bitch," he says fondly, and Sam's face twists into awe, sadness, and elation all at once.

And that. That does it.

FILLED: To Die for a Memory Pt. 4 END

If Sam wants his big brother back that badly, the one that so obviously loves him and will do right by him, then fine, he'll get him. Starting with a rescue mission that Sam's kinda gonna be pissed about in all of, oh, two seconds.

Dean grabs Sam up by his armpits and heaves him to his feet. Sam immediately starts fighting as soon as he figures out what Dean's doing, but by then it's too late. Dean keeps him cornered, grabs his face between his hands, and says loudly, "This was real but it's not now. There's a Djinn dead in the corner, Lucifer's out of his cage, angels are all dicks, and you and I, we're angelic condoms for the worst dicks of them all. That's real, Sam."

Sam's shaking his head but the field is disappearing fast. "No, no, stop it, no," Sam yells, pulling at Dean's hands, his clothes, anything in a bid to get him to stop.

But Dean saw how fast the last victim faded, and they're bound to be running low on time as it is. "This isn't real. Bobby in a wheelchair, that's real. You popping open the cage, that's real. The both of us at odds for the past who the hell knows how long, that was real, and it's reality, Sam. This isn't it, so wake the hell up!"

And just like that, Dean's kneeling over Sam in a warehouse off the highway. The Djinn's dead in the corner, the field is gone, and Sam-

Sam looks stricken. If Dean had slapped him, he wouldn't have looked as hurt or stunned. Dean swallows. "This is reality," he says, softer now.

Sam rolls away and buries his face against the dirty concrete floor. Dean grabs his shoulder to pull him back, then feels the shaking of Sam's body beneath his hand. The nearly silent sobs reach his ears then, and Dean feels like the worst person on the face of the planet. He'd saved Sam, dammit. Saved his brother from death.

Except Sam's crying his heart out like death was better than living, and no matter how many issues they have between them, Dean's gonna push it aside. Because right now, nothing's more important than Sam. And it's time that Sam knew it.

"You and me," he says, knowing Sam can hear him, "we're real. That day off was a hell of a memory. Reality is us, messed up where we are. But...but reality can change. It doesn't always have to be that way. We can change that mess. Change us. I promise, Sammy. We'll get back to that." I'll make you laugh like that again some day.

Because the bottom line of that memory is that Sam's perfect world, such a simple one, is one that the kid's willing to die for. Coming back here is worse than death, and Dean doesn't really know what to say to that. Sam is willing to die and stay with that younger version of Dean than come back and deal with the more modern one. Is their relationship that strained? Is it that bad?

Maybe it is, from Sam's point of view. And it steals Dean's breath away, but he swallows and breaths and when he's able to speak again, he does with only a slight tremor in his voice.

"It won't always be this way. We'll make it better. I promise. Don't...don't give up on me now. I need you. Bitch," he added as an afterthought, but with real sincerity.

Sam's breath catches on the last word. The response isn't given, but if Dean doesn't think Sam loved him after that entire damn world-trip, then he's kinda really stupid.

First act as newly reinstated big brother: get little brother off the floor. To the car. To the motel. In blankets. To sleep.

Then...breakfast, little brother's choosing. Maybe even talk over breakfast.

The real possibility of losing his brother is now a terrifying one in Dean's head. That happy paradise of Sam's is going to haunt Dean as a personal hell for some time.

But he'll make it right. Enough that Sam will want to stay here in reality with him.

I've started this, but I hope it is alright that being a cross-over with Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series.
It will take a little time, and I will probably need to post it with a link later.

I will take a chance on this one, as I have a snap shot this would work with. Just to warn you I will probably not be able to leave it before June.

I've got this theory that every time Sam gives himself a headache from using his powers, he burns a little hole in his brain that gets patched in with left-over bits of Azazel.

Suppose, for some reason, Sam and Dean have to do some kind of hard-core, bleach-and-sulfuric-acid-on-a-stainless-steel-scouring-pad style spiritual purification, something even stronger than standing in the detonation radius of a dying angel. It works. It works so well, it deactivates or knocks out all the latent demon bits in Sam.

Sam begins to show bizarre neurological symptoms, like personality changes, incoordination, or maybe even some Flowers for Algernon type stuff. He's out of it, he's ill, but most of all, he can't feel the darkness anymore.

They figure out that the problem is that Sam needs the bits of demon in him to function. Dean's horrified, Sam's horrified, and whether they need to put new bits of demon into Sam or just wait for the bits of Azazel in him to wake back up and regenerate, Sam half-way, mostly, doesn't want to go back. But he has to. And Dean has to contemplate which mode of existence hurts his brother more.
