Summer Comment-fic meme!

It's been forever since we had a straight-up comment-fic meme, am I right? So let's get this show on the road!

SPREAD THE WORD

THE RULES

→ Leave a comment here with your prompt. This is a Sam-focused hurt/comfort community, so Sam should be the one in the hurt/comforted role. Your prompts may involve sick!Sam, hurt!Sam, angsty!Sam, basically anything that results in Sam being on the receiving end of hurt/comfort. (No rules against whumping other characters as well, of course, but you have to whump Sam first. ;) )
→ In your prompt, please state your desired characters or pairings. All genres/pairings welcome, but no real-person (RPF) prompts.

Example A: “Sam, Dean, gen, set in season 2. Sam has a vision and passes out. Cue caring!Dean and limp!Sam.”
Example B: “Sam/Dean, trauma. Sam is injured on a hunt, Dean freaks out when he thinks Sam might be dead.”

→ Post as many prompts as you like - but one prompt per comment. If you've got a couple, comment with each separately.
→ Prompts can be as short or detailed as you like. Remember though - more detail means less wriggle room for the writer, which might lower the chances of someone picking up your prompt.
→ Go through the prompts! If you find one you like, write a fic for it. There's no limit to how many users can reply to a prompt, or how many prompts someone can write for.
When replying to a prompt with your comment-fic, put ‘filled’ in your subject line and then anything else you want, like a title if you have one/part numbers. It’s not a big deal if you forget this step, but it will make it easier for people to find your fic. As subject lines are no more, please begin your fills with the word FILLED and a TITLE in BOLD - the first box on this page shows you how to position the bold tag for proper results.
→ If you notice that your fic is not on the master list after a decent amount of time (say, two days), please poke me in a PM. I might have missed it.
→ Anon posting enabled.
→ NO SPOILERS FOR UNAIRED EPISODES.
→ Play nice - no flaming and no character bashing, period. Any comments that break this rule will be deleted without warning.
→ Feedback is catnip for writers. Leave some author-love!
→ No spam comments.
→ Contact one of the mods if you have a question.
→ Spread the Sam love - pimp this meme!
→ Have fun!

Master List of Fills

Mod Note: I have severely restricted access to the Internet these days, due mostly to time constraints. Bear with me if your fills don't appear right away, okay? :)

Priorities; by [livejournal.com profile] center_galaxy; Outsider POV: pizza guy/girl. Goes to deliver a pie (veggie lover's delight?) to a remote motel. The big guy that answers the door is in no way healthy (either he's woefully sick or beaten all to hell.) Or maybe the door is ajar and the delivery person can see someone passed out on the floor.

Winchester Luck; by [livejournal.com profile] chaos_slave; Sam falls/gets thrown off a cliff.

Bath Time Blues; by [livejournal.com profile] cherry916; Sam Dean John gen Pre-series. Sam has a back injury or some sort of back problem, he's not paralysed, but he can't lift anything. Dean and John are fussing over him and watching him like a hawk to make sure he follows the doctor's orders.

The Itch You Can't Scratch; by [livejournal.com profile] cherry916; Sam gets a nasty rash from the hellhound blood all over him.

Side Effects; by [livejournal.com profile] center_galaxy; "Everybody Hates Hitler" AU. What if the Nazi Necromancer poison didn't go away nearly as quickly as it did in the actual ep? Or had some nasty aftereffects?

The Very Thought of You; by [livejournal.com profile] center_galaxy; Jess has worked the late night shift at a diner for months now. But when the tall guy with the dimples that calls in every night for a coffee suddenly stops coming, she gets worried because no one seems to notice he's missing but her. Then a few nights later he stumbles into the diner, all beat up and bloody.

Occupational Hazard; by [livejournal.com profile] omh_6; It's the summer of Sam's 13th year. Dean is already Dad's right-hand man and Too Cool for School, and Sam has been scrambling to keep up, then KAPOW. Growth spurt. Almost overnight, Sam finds himself eye-to-eye with his 'big' brother and you'd think that'd make him happy, right? But no, this is Sam Winchester we're talking, here. Cue the growing pains, eternal hunger, long ungainly limbs, screwed up center of gravity.

Angry Spirits Don't Care About Mud; by [livejournal.com profile] calypsobard;"Maybe Sam should've listened to his brother before he decided to play the hero and run back into that house."

The Worst Thing; by [livejournal.com profile] scribble2much; The memories of the cage are so strong that Sam begins to show psychosomatic symptoms to some of Lucifer's tortures.

On the Side of the Road; by [livejournal.com profile] jasmineisland; Back in season 5, after Dean and Sam split up; Sam hitchhikes, thing is, the angels are out to tear him apart, now that they’ve got them split up; they recruit a demon or something to that effect, to do their dirty work. The demon ends up raping him on the side of the road., while or right before Dean ends up calling him to reconcile.

Anything For You; by [livejournal.com profile] center_galaxy; Remember Sam's broken wrist way back when? He had a cast, it healed, all was well. Until somewhere in his late 30s the pain he's been ignoring for a while becomes a constant thing. They discover that Sam's been walking around with an improperly healed carpal bone and as a result has some nasty degenerative arthritis, and Dean decides this is a good time to hang it up and retire. But, just because they're done with the supernatural, doesn't mean that it's done with them and when Dean goes missing - Sam and his swollen, knobby "it's not entirely useless, dammit" hand have to find him. It's frustrating, it's dangerous, it hurts - but it's his brother, you know?

What I Would Give for You by [livejournal.com profile] center_galaxy Sam gets tuberculosis.

And a Pillar of Fire by Night by [livejournal.com profile] ladyarcherfan3 (gen please) At the end of 8.23, Sam tries to "let go" of the trials. The glow leaves his arms and he shows Dean with a smile before crying out in pain and collapsing. What if Sam''s collapse was caused by the Angels falling rather than just the trial's; side effects? He could be overloading on the same thing the Batcave is sensing when the machines turn on.

Better Than it Was by [livejournal.com profile] calypsobard Post season 8; The boys run into Jody Mills. She's still (quite understandably) shaken and freaked by her near-death-by-Crowley. However, once she sees how ill Sam looks, she seizes upon nursing Sam back to health as her new mission.

Just Press Reset by [livejournal.com profile] scribble2much  In the wake of s8 there would have to be some lingering trust issues for Sam regarding Dean's forgiveness and respect. So maybe something years down the line when they are in one of their desperate situations and Dean does a "we're good, right?" check and somehow realizes that Sam flat out doesn't believe him, and has just gotten used to the idea that Dean loves him, sure, but won't ever think well of him or believe that Sam has lived down his mistakes. And Dean is all "YES I LOVE YOU BECAUSE YOU'RE MY LITTLE BROTHER BUT I ALSO LOVE YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE AWESOME" in some very convincing way and then Sam cries

Overflow by [livejournal.com profile] monicawoe Sam/Dean or gen; Getting all charged up for the Trials and then not discharging that energy by closing the gates of hell may not have been such a great idea. Sam's not sick any more, but his powers are back -- visions, telekinesis, other freaky stuff -- and he has no control over it and he's starting fires and hurting people. And then it gets worse and he's causing little cracks in the reality around him, cracks between earth and heaven and hell and purgatory and the fae realm. At this point it's not even that discharging the energy all at once will probably kill him, it's that they don't know how to do it without blowing the whole thing apart.

Helpless by [livejournal.com profile] jasmineisland Sam breaks his collar bone and needs help with the very basics of daily life, IE. getting dressed, brushing his hair and so on.

One Soul, Needfully Patched by [livejournal.com profile] indiachick While Death is building the Great Wall of Sam, he tries to fix as much of the hell trauma as he can. Sam's head is one messy place though.

Work in Progress by [livejournal.com profile] mentholpixie Sam and Dean are at a bar and for some reason (up to the author) a bunch of guys start bad mouthing Sam and making fun of him. Sam just shrugs it off, but NOBODY is allowed to hurt Sam's feelings on Dean's watch, so Dean pretty much knocks the crap outta these guys and makes sure his brother is OK. :)

Anything At All by [livejournal.com profile] center_galaxy Gen, pls! Remember Sam's broken wrist way back when? He had a cast, it healed, all was well. Until somewhere in his late 30s the pain he's been ignoring for a while becomes a constant thing, a constant sense of pain that he feels when it's cold, when rain's coming. It's difficult to use his dominant hand - he can barely hold a pen or a fork, let alone a gun. Under the appropriate assumed identity, Dean takes Sam to get it checked out. They discover that Sam's been walking around with an improperly healed carpal bone and as a result has some nasty degenerative arthritis. It's been years and the doc they go to see doesn't think that there are a great deal of surgical options. He recommends injections to reduce the inflammation, some ibuprofen for daily use, some lortab or percocet when it's particularly bad, and for Sam to do what he can to start training his left hand while at the same time working to keep maximized function of his right. Dean decides this is a good time to hang it up and retire. Little place, little jobs, and Sam and Dean get by - working out Sam's hand, getting injections, and living. But, just because they're done with the supernatural, doesn't mean that it's done with them and when Dean goes missing - Sam and his swollen, knobby "it's not entirely useless, dammit" hand have to find him. It's frustrating, it's dangerous, it hurts - but it's his brother, you know?

Washed Up Like Poison by [livejournal.com profile] starling_night The thing about being human is that you can know things with your mind, believe them with all of your soul, and still have this little place in your heart that doesn't give a shit. Ruby lied to Sam, she manipulated him, and when he was with her - he was as close to being evil as he's ever been, barring the soulless Sam debacle. If she was brought back to life, he wouldn't hesitate to do everything he had to to make certain that it wasn't for very damned long. But, still, here and there, now and then, he thinks of her, he misses her just the tiniest bit. Sure, she was a vile, lying demon, using him to bring about the rise of the Devil and the eventual end of the world, but there were quiet moments, peaceful ones where they'd lie together while the sun came up, while the candles burned down, while the world went from silence to waking. And no matter how it frustrates him, how much he hates himself every time he thinks of her instead of those he misses that actually deserve it (i.e. the Good Saint Jessica), he is unable to do anything with that tiny little place in his heart that thinks "I know it wasn't real, I know she lied and was truly Evil with a capital E, but sometimes, I still miss her."

Scapegoat by [livejournal.com profile] reggie11 Teenchesters. In retaliation to Dean stealing his girl/showing him up/whatever, a school bully (or bullies) drags Sam into the school bathroom and cuts his hair off. Cue distraught Sammy and protective, pissed off, big brother Dean; Gen please!

A City Broken Into by [livejournal.com profile] sharktheory Naomi orders Castiel to kill Sam

Nutcracker by [livejournal.com profile] jasmineisland Sam is hiding that he's injured or more injured than Dean thinks or that he's sick from Dean 'cause he thinks that Dean has enough to 'deal with' already, love it to be canon; Skin, The Benders, Devils Trap, any of the episodes from early Season 2, pretty much any episode in Season 5, Let it Bleed, Plucky Pennywhistle's Magical Menagerie and sooooo many more episodes where this could happen; Dean gets all guilty when he finds Sam treating himself and mother-hens Sam back to health; Gen or Slash

Instinct written by [livejournal.com profile] monicawoe art by [livejournal.com profile] quickreaver After the trials, Sam doesn't get better. Kevin's theory is that it's cancer: the trials are supposed to purge him of all physical and spiritual impurities, so tuberculosis is out, and cancer is the only reason left for Sam to be coughing his lungs up when he's supposed to be the pinnacle of human perfection. Nope. Sam's falling apart because the demon blood is gone.

Surfacing by [livejournal.com profile] a_starfish Cas's completely, face-palmingly nonsensical "fix" for Hallucifer doesn't work. Not quite all the way, and not forever; Gen or Wincest, any rating.

Time and Time Again by [livejournal.com profile] center_galaxy Kid!Sam time travels forward and meets current!Dean (without current!Sam, preferably, but I'm not that picky). Dean's having a bad time with his PTSD from . Sam freaks out and is generally scared of the big gruff hunter who's trying to help him get home. And then he finds the amulet tucked away somewhere. Or maybe he sees a picture of himself and Dean. Or he's just smart enough to put two and two together. Whatever the case, he figures out that this is what his big brother becomes and he's terrified. Bonus points for wee!Sam witness torturer!Dean.

42 Blankets and Towels by [livejournal.com profile] hadassah934 Sam and Dean are both sick. Charlie finds out and brings chicken soup and geeky movies to the batcave.

Save or Kill by [livejournal.com profile] of_nightingales John shoots Sam. On purpose or accident -- repercussions are going to be severe in any case.

Like Groundhog Day by [livejournal.com profile] foolscapper Gen, during Mystery Spot. So, after countless Tuesdays, let's say Sam's gotten a little desperate. I mean, if Dean dying means resetting the day, then maybe him dying will end the loop? The youngest Winchester figures it's worth a try and starts to put himself in situations where Dean usually died (ex: walking into the middle of the street with a speeding car coming at him). Dean, on the other hand, can't figure out what the heck is going on with his brother. Bonus points if Sam eventually breaks down in tears, puts a gun to his head and Dean has to talk him down from pulling the trigger.

[identity profile] ladykorana.livejournal.com 2013-07-03 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, totally ok! Despite what my other prompt might imply, I actually read far more gen than anything else. :)

[identity profile] quickreaver.livejournal.com 2013-07-03 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] honeylocusttree had this notion, similar to your prompt, that if the demon blood was responsible for Sam's height and girth, what happens when it's gone and Sam isn't the "moose" anymore? What would the mathlete be like? Many possibilities here!

[identity profile] ladykorana.livejournal.com 2013-07-03 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god, yes, all the slow recovery stories!

[identity profile] chaos-slave.livejournal.com 2013-07-03 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
Gen. Pre-series- Dean goes to far with the nair in the shampoo and Sam gets it into his eyes.

[identity profile] chaos-slave.livejournal.com 2013-07-03 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Gen or Wincest - Injured in the early years of hunting and in a desperate move to keep them together John takes Sam from the hospital early befere corrective surgery could be performed saying that the scars won't interfere with him hunting. Sam now lives with a disfiguring scar and Dean tries to keep his self confidence up.

[identity profile] chaos-slave.livejournal.com 2013-07-03 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
Start of S6, Gen or Wincest -The hole opened in the ground but instead of the boy's falling in, their souls along with the angels are pulled in, leaving behind empty shells. It's been years since Stull, Dean has quit hunting, spending his time looking for a way to rescue Sam and Adam along with paying for the medical care that it takes to keep two 'comatose' patients alive. On an average day Bobby calls Dean while he's at work, Sam has started to show signs of waking.

FILLED: Priorites (1/2)

As a pizza delivery girl, I've seen some pretty weird shit. Rich people who were craving that "commoner food" (yes, one woman actually called the pizza that), suburban moms who are juggling practically three babies in their arms as well as commanding a fleet of older children, and yes, sometimes I get just a normal person who wanted a slice of pizza. So, the truth is, I'm not fazed by much. My mom is a doctor and ever since I was little, she would drag me to the E.R. and show me all sorts of things so to freak me out, it takes a lot.

The guy that opens the door to room 302 of the Shady Pines motel room freaks me out. For one thing for a guy of his size--and he is a giant--he looks woefully undernourished. His plaid shirt seems to hang off of his lanky frame, so much so that he seems to be swimming in it. His long hair is plastered to his sweaty brow and he constantly adjusts his weight from side to side, as if he can't handle standing still for too long. Dark bags hang under his murky hazel eyes and I wonder briefly just how long it is has been since this guy got some rest.

My first instinct screams, "Junkie" and while he has some of hallmarks of a drug addict, there's something about him that sets me at ease. I can't quite put my finger on it, but he seems more like a kicked puppy type rather than a ruthless druggie.

"Veggie lover's delight?" I begin, a small smile on my lips as I hold up the box. Frankly, this guy could use a bit of meat on his bones, but to each their own.

"Yeah?" He mumbles, words slurring a bit. I tilt my head to the side in confusion, blonde hair in my ponytail brushing my shoulder. He doesn't seem too sure that this is his food.

"You did order this, right?" I ask him, feeling somewhat compelled to have him sit down and breathe because I'm pretty sure that rocking thing is more of keeping-himself-conscious thing rather than a-need-a-hit thing. What had this guy endured to look so sickly? Maybe he needed a doctor?

"I did," He confirms, nodding his head a bit. "Here." He hands me two 20's, way too much and just as I'm about to protest his eyes roll up back into his head and the next thing I know, this gigantic man is falling towards me.

FILLED: Priorities (2/2)

So, no, I didn't get crushed.

I mean, I almost did, but hey, who knew that a few tricks I picked up in my high school theatre class would save me? I was able to help the man down as gently as I could (he was almost twice my size, after all) and then I was left with the question, "What to do now?" I couldn't just leave him, not like this. If the situation were reversed, I would like to think that someone would look after me. Then again, I wasn't certified to handle this. I had the basic of the most basic certifications--CPR and First Aid--and I doubted they would come in handy here. Still, I dutifully shook the man's shoulder and checked his breathing. His breaths were shallow and rapid, but he didn't need CPR.

What he did need was a doctor.

"You're going to be okay," I blurted out suddenly, though why I was comforting an unconscious stranger, I wasn't sure. "I'm going to get you help." I punched in my local emergency number and idly brushed some of the man's hair out of his face as I rattled off my location. Help was promised and then I hung up. Glancing down, I noticed that he seemed so much more peaceful as he slept. Yeah, he still looked sickly, but he also appeared to have the weight of the world off his shoulders. I wondered what event had caused him to be so ill. With my job, I only got to see glimpses of peoples' lives--I would never know their full story nor would they ever know mine.

Yet, with that man . . . I wanted to know his story.

It seemed like one worth hearing.

Help arrived and when the ambulance driver asked if I wanted to come along, I immediately said yes. I'm not sure why. I wasn't family, I didn't have a right to be by this man's side, but I felt bad at the thought of leaving him alone. The worse thing to be was alone in this world and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. The doctor dutifully filled me in on what little she could--high fever, dehydration, severe sleep deprivation, the list went on and on. They wouldn't let me see him in the room, but they did permit me to sit outside. They told me his name, "Sam" and then they were off to call his family. Soon, I would be relieved from duty--my job as a good samaritan fulfilled--and I would walk out of this hospital room and never see Sam again.

That thought saddened me.

I went to get a cup of coffee and by the time I got back, a handsome man with the brightest green eyes I had ever seen was sitting in my spot. He rose from the chair I as I entered the room and came to stand by me.

"I'm Dean," He greeted extending his calloused hand. "Sam's brother."

"How is he?" I asked quickly and Dean sighed.

"They're getting the fever under control now, but it'll take some time."

"He just collapsed," I explained and Dean nodded his head. "Does he have the flu or something?"

"Something like that," He replied vaguely. "Anyways, thank you for helping him. I just left for an hour and I didn't know that he was that bad off--"

"No need to explain to me," I informed him with a small grin. "I guess it was just lucky that I passed by."

"I don't believe in luck." Dean retorted, almost bitterly and my eyebrows rose. What had this man been through to merit that kind of reaction.

An awkward silence passed and I realized dimly that this was my cue, it was time to go. Sam wasn't my family, he wasn't even my friend. After today, the memory of this incident would fade away until it became nothing more than a dream-like image.

Still . . .

"Could I see him? Please?" Instead of the reaction I expected, Dean just nodded his head.

Sam was hooked up to so many monitors that I lost track where one ended and the next one began. An IV pumped him full of saline and a heart monitor beeped out a steady rhythm. He was sick, but he would get better. I didn't know Dean, but judging by the way he stood protectively over his brother and scanned every single nurse that walked into the room as if they could be a potential threat, I knew he was in good hands. I smiled and then headed towards the door. My work was done now.

"Wait, you never did tell me your name." Dean interjected softly as I was almost out of the room. I turned back around and grinned.

"It's Jessica."

And Dean just beamed.

Post season 8

The boys run into Jody Mills. She's still (quite understandably) shaken and freaked by her near-death-by-Crowley. However, once she sees how ill Sam looks, she seizes upon 'nurse Sam back to health' as her new mission.

oh yay!

[identity profile] center-galaxy.livejournal.com 2013-07-03 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
Gen, please! Set in season 8. Naomi decides that the only way to get Castiel to play by her rules is to take Sam. She kidnaps him and puts him into some sort of perilous situation (you can choose what) and basically holds him hostage. While Sam tries to escape on his own and comes pretty darn close, he is no match for all of Naomi's angels. Cue a pissed off/worried/protective Castiel and Dean to the rescue!

[identity profile] center-galaxy.livejournal.com 2013-07-03 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
Any season. Gen please! You know what's not fun? Pneumonia! You know what's even worse? Double pneumonia with pleural effusions (that means fluid in the lungs) and a low oxygen intake. Pick whomever you want and have them take care of Sam. It could be a friend or maybe even an enemy that's forced to keep the younger Winchester brother alive for some reason. Have fun with this!

[identity profile] ladykorana.livejournal.com 2013-07-03 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, this was delightful! The name at the end was a nice touch.

Gen or Sam/Castiel.
So in 8.17 there was the whole thing with killing Dean a thousand times but Sam was nowhere to be seen. My inner Sassy shipper says this was because Naomi had something worse in mind for Sam.

So I'd really like to see Castiel being brainwashed by Naomi into hurting/torturing Sam.
Bonus points for Sam recognizing that Cas isn't in control and being his usual perpetually-forgiving-of-Castiel self.

FILLED - Winchester Luck

AN: I've never tried my hand at filling a prompt so I apologize in advance for grammar mistakes as this will be one of my few attempts at writing and it's also four in the morning. Set sometime in season two, I hope you enjoy.

--------

Sam sits in the dirt looking at the top of a cliff, okay fine a really tall ditch that is maybe at the tallest point is only about ten feet tall but it might as well be a hundred feet because there isn't any way he's going to be able to climb out on his own. Shifting painfully as he pushes back with his good leg he gives a long suffering sigh because somehow this is all Dean's fault and he is never going to live this down.

--------------

"Damn it! Come on Baby, don't do this to me now.." Dean Winchester curses as he nearly scalds his hands on the steam that's coming from a hose that decided being twenty miles from the nearest town is perfect place to burst, leaking all the precious cooling fluid of the Impala onto the ground.

"Anything I can.."

"Son of a bitch!"

Sam shakes his head as he pushes his hair out of his face, it's nearly a hundred today and the sun is directly overhead. Stripping out of his over shirt he glares at the cast still on his hand, it's hot and itching like mad now in the heat, he's sure that he's getting a heat rash inside of it and wishes he could just stick his hand into the half melted ice of the small cooler they have in the Impala.

"I've got good new and bad news Sam. The good is that it's only a weak spot on the hose that gave way, the bad news is that you are going to be walking about a mile back to that stream we saw with a bucket so that we have enough water to fill the radiator when it cools down." Dean walks around to the side of the car with the offending hose in his hand, starting to mummify the hole in tape in hopes that it will hold so they can limp to the nearest town. "And before you suggest we just use the holy water, I'll remind you that someone forgot to fill the jugs back up."

The bitchface isn't lost on Dean as Sam starts to protest that he wasn't the one who forgot but his brother is just now starting to get over the death of their dad and Sam doesn't push, he only shoves off the car with another glare as he walks to the open trunk and grabs the empty bottles. "You're such a jerk.."

"Stop whining and start walking, bitch." Dean gives Sam a lopsided grin as he throws the last unopened bottle of water at Sam before he leaves. "You learn to work on the car and next time you can repair the engine and I'll go fetch the water."

Sam snorts as he catches the water. "Yea right, you let me close to your car with tools, that will never happen." Turning around Sam starts walking through the knee high grass in the direction of the stream Dean pointed out earlier.

----------------

The walk to the edge of the stream wasn't nearly as bad as Sam thought it would be, it was worse because what looked like flat ground was really full of holes, shallow dips and hidden knots low growing brambles that would prick and catch the fabric of his pants. Reaching down to pick a broken thorn out of the hem of his pants Sam looks at the water, out of reach thanks to how steep the bank is at this part of prairie. "Great..."

Walking along the edge of the bank Sam watches for a place that he can get down and back up again, looking a head Sam finally see's the break he's been hoping for, an erosion path from rain water had cut into the steep walls and made a natural slope with plenty of foot holds. Unfortunately looking a head means not looking at what's directly in front of you and all it takes is one ill placed bramble and then an uneven spot in the dirt to send him to the bottom of the stream bed the hard way. "Oh sh..."

-------------

[identity profile] chaos-slave.livejournal.com 2013-07-03 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
Leaning against the Impala, Dean checks his watch for the third time in ten minutes, blowing out a breath he drinks the last of his water before throwing the bottle into the open window. "Come on, how long does it take to get a couple of gallons of water.." Standing up he walks to the front of the car, checking to see how cool the engine is, even if Sam did get back he still couldn't risk cracking the head by putting water in too soon. "Could we have worse luck?"

A crack of thunder suddenly shatters the quiet afternoon.

"One day I'll learn not to say things like that."

------------

Falling isn't that bad, it's the tensing and the feeling of the first shock of impact that sucks, the part that really sucks is when you try and catch yourself and that turns out to be a really bad idea when you feel your wrist give out and then following it is the jarring sensation that travels up your body, along your spine when your knee hits the ground a split second after your hands do. Sam though will argue with anyone that the very worst part is the part of your brain that registers all of this in a sort of slow motion that gives you enough time to understand just how bad all of this is about to hurt.

Rolling over onto his back Sam lays there for a few moments as his brain and body try and work out what went wrong when the shock wears off. "Fuck.." Lifting up his arm he looks at the cast on his wrist, it's cracked, meaning his wrist is probably cracked again and then the throbbing starts but it takes him a second to understand why it's in the wrong arm and he raises his good arm up, looking at the rapidly swelling joint.

"Son of a bitch." Borrowing Dean's favorite swear Sam pushes himself up on his elbows. The growing ache in his back is starting to register and now he can see the open and torn knee of his right leg, blood soaking through the denim. "I'm so screwed." Sam breathes out as he tries to bend the leg and learns quickly that he isn't going to be walking out of here on his own, even if he could get up with the possibility of two broken wrists.

Scooting back as best he can against the wall stream he tries to get into what shade is there when the crack of thunder makes him jump, jarring his knee. "Oh come on!" Sam swears as the first drops of rain begin to fall from the scattered clouds over head.

-----------

Following Sam's trail is pretty easy, even with it pouring rain that's soaking Dean to the bone. "Sam?!" Not sure if Sam can hear him or if he could hear Sam over the constant low rumbling of the distant storm from that's rapidly coming closer Dean pushes down the worry and keeps an eye out for Sam. It's been nearly three hours since the kid left and nearly two since another car came by, stopping and offering Dean the water needed to get his Baby back on the road.

"Dean!"

Stopping Dean looks around hearing his name and then he walks closer to the edge looking over it and relief floods through him as he see's Sam, soaked in red dirt from the water that's running down his back. "Dude, if you think for one moment I'm letting you in my car like that.."

"Shut up and get me of here already!"

Dean grins at the relief on Sam's face even with the mix of bitchface, he can see Sam's hand and wrist look about five sizes to large and the one leg stretched out in front of him, telling him all he needs to know as to why Sam didn't make it back to the Impala. "Do I even want to know how you ended up down there Sammy?"

"It's Sam and I would draw you a picture if my wrist didn't hurt like hell."

Sliding down the muddy embankment Dean chuckles, Sam's hurting but not enough that it's killed his sense of humor which is a good thing. "Well I don't know about you but I'm ready to get out of here. You think you can army crawl your way up onto the grass above if I give you a boost Sam?" Kneeling down he checks the out stretched leg, finding the knee swollen and hot to the touch even with the rain.

"I'm fine, just need to ice it. I.." Sam's words are cut off as Dean grabs him around the elbows and helps him stand and a new round of pain tells him of bruises he hadn't found yet and he leans heavily on Dean for a moment. "Okay, a lot of ice."

Dean thinks it's going to take a lot more than ice but he won't argue with Sam till after he's got him back to the car about going to a clinic.

------------

Two hours later a couple of wet and muddy figures make their way back to the black car waiting for them on the side of the road. Dean doesn't make a fuss as he helps Sam's muddy ass into the back seat so he can stretch out his leg and just as he's about to shut the door he hears a loud groan of frustration come from Sam. "Sammy, you okay back there?"

"No I'm not Dean, the water jugs are still back in the stream." Sam beats the back of his against the window, they had been so busy trying to just get back to the car they forgot to get the water needed to get the car moving.

"Yea well lucky for you, not long after you left a nice local stopped and had a spare jug of water." Dean silently counts down in his head how long it takes this information to process and bitchface number three of four to appear.

Sam really wishes that right now he could bury his face in his hands as Dean gets into the front of the car and they start to drive off. He seriously doubts his luck could get any worse and that's when he hears Dean from the front seat talking to someone on the phone.

"Hey Bobby, mind if Sam and I crash at your place for a bit? Nah we're fine, well mostly fine. Sammy decided to throw himself off a small cliff and may have broken both his wrists and now he's going to need someone to help him wash that girly hair of his.."

Gen future/curtain fic – They quit hunting after the accident that left Sam's unable to walk without a crutch, and forever scrambled Dean's memory. But when Sam injures himself at home, the boys are both reminded that you can never take the Big Brother out of Dean!

You filled this prompt beautifully! Her concern for Sam was both insightful and touching and I loved the ending with the reveal of her name - it was perfect!

Jess has worked the late night shift at a diner for months now. But when the tall guy with the dimples that calls in every night for a coffee suddenly stops coming, she gets worried because no one seems to notice he's missing but her. Then a few nights later he stumbles into the diner, all beat up and bloody.
