TRIPLE PLAY at OhSam!

Let’s try something a little different for September at [livejournal.com profile] ohsam! We’re calling it the Triple Play Challenge and here’s the deal …

BOOST THE SIGNAL

Step One: Write a three-part prompt.
1.) Pick a setting
2.) Pick an additional character or characters (Sam is assumed, naturally.)
3.) Pick an H/C scenario, with Sam as the focus. Other characters can share the misery, but Sam should get the brunt of it. That's how we roll. :D

You can make as many prompts as your little heart desires, one set per comment, but it would probably work best if kept simple. For instance: 1.) the Impala, 2.) Dean and Garth, 3.) an infected hangnail, or 1.) autumn 2.) Jessica Moore 3.) allergies.

Step Two: Make visual art! Create a drawing, painting, photomanip, or video based around an offered prompt set. All three points must be addressed. The art can be doodled or extravagantly detailed, artist’s choice. And, of course, Sam should be the primary focus of the H/C. Please reply with your art under the prompt you chose, and either put the art beneath a cut or supply a link to it, with appropriate header and warnings! (See sidebar left.) As subject lines are no more, please begin your fills with the word FILLED and a TITLE in BOLD.

Step Three: Authors are invited to write roughly 300 words for the art. (No one’s going to count so if you run a little under, no big deal. And if you’re inspired to write more? Awesome! Go for it.) Again, please reply with your fic under the art you chose, with appropriate header and warnings. (See sidebar left.) As subject lines are no more, please begin your fills with the word FILLED and a TITLE in BOLD.

If more than one author or artist wants to work with the same prompt, have at it! Steps Two and Three can be inverted, however the end game is to complete all three steps, the Triple Play. But hey, follow where the muse leads you. Most of all, have fun … at Sam’s expense. ;)

The usual courtesies apply:
→ If you notice that your fic is not on the master list after a decent amount of time (say, three days), please poke me in a PM. I might have missed it.
→ Anon posting enabled.
→ NO SPOILERS FOR UNAIRED EPISODES.
→ Play nice - no flaming and no character bashing, period. Any comments that break this rule will be deleted without warning.
→ Feedback is catnip for writers. Leave some author-love!
→ No spam comments.
→ Contact one of the mods if you have a question.
→ Spread the Sam love - pimp this meme!

FILLED: Paging Dean Winchester 2/2

The nurse looked at the other for confirmation. The other nurse replied, “Your brother brought you in. He just stepped out.” She of course remembered the brother. He had winked at her slyly as he walked in the direction of vending.

“So he was here,” Sam said with obvious relief. He wasn’t alone again. Perhaps Lucifer was also gone for good. He wanted to feel relief but instead he felt himself hyperventilating. One nurse stood and then returned with an oxygen mask she looped over his face.

“OK. Deep breaths, Mr. Dresden,” the nurse urged.

“Hurts,” Sam muttered. He ripped off the oxygen mask as he felt a wave of nausea rush through him. The nurses quickly had a bin in front of him and pushed him toward it.

At that moment, Dean burst back into the room. “Sammy, what the hell?” He yelled in a voice fueled with anger and fear. He sat the coffee on the table and quickly closed the distance to Sam.

Sam was relieved to see his brother there and in the flesh. Once the sickness had passed, he grabbed his arm to assure himself that he was real and not a figment of his imagination.

“Yeah I’m here, Sammy,” Dean said consolingly and ruffled his hair. Maybe they both needed the reassuring contact.

One of the nurses quickly moved in to wipe a cool cloth across Sam’s face.

“I don’t want to stay,” he protested. He was still struggling to regain a steady breathing rhythm.

“Well that is just too damn bad. I am exercising my right as older brother and you’re staying until the doc gives you the OK. I am not playing with a fever and broken ribs.”

Sam looked as if he wanted to protest but the nurse interrupted. “We should get him back in bed. We’ll need to check the ribs again and make sure his great escape attempt did not cause any more damage.”

“You hear that, Sammy? Damage.”

“Shut up, Dean.” But there was hardly any emotion behind it.
That was enough for Dean to realize he made the right decision in insisting Sam stay. He helped one nurse get his gigantor of a brother off of the floor and into the bed. He realized that in the process, the other got a Sam Winchester full moon view.

That nurse cleared her throat and deftly put the oxygen mask into place. “And keep it on for now, Mr. Dresden.”

Dean leaned against the wall with his arms crossed and watched as the ribs were unwrapped, reassessed, and rewrapped before everything was reattached. Before the nurses left, the explained the importance of staying put and elicited a promise that he would.

“And I’ll make sure he does,” Dean added. “Even if have to sit on him.”
As soon as they were gone, Sam removed the oxygen mask. “Sitting on me might be counterproductive,” he said.

Dean left the wall and took the rickety chair by the bed. “So is trying to get out. Wanna tell me what that was about, Sammy?”

Sam felt color that had nothing to do with the fever. He shrugged, closed his eyes, and then sighed. “I was worried you were never really here. I was still at the other hospital and Lucifer would be back any minute.”

Dean gripped his shoulder tight in order to reassure his brother of his presence. “I’m here Sammy. I will be here unless I need to use the can or get coffee. But that’s it, you hear me?”

Sam managed a deep breath and then nodded.

“Ok. Good. Now do what the nurses told you. Stay still, get some rest so you can heal and we can get the hell out of here. And if you’re a good patient, I’ll even dig out a pair of boxers for you.” He couldn’t help but grin slyly as more color rose to Sam’s cheeks.

Sam gave him a sour glare before settling into the warm blankets and again finding sleep. Dean picked up his coffee and settled in to keep his promise
