OhSam Triple Play 2016!

It's November 2, an auspicious (if ominous) day for our darling Sam, so to herald his introduction to The Red Stuff, let's revisit an annual tradition. Welcome to the OhSam Triple Play 2016! This year, we're offering a focus on a reoccurring theme in Sam's life: blood.

"Blood" could be interpreted in many ways. Family don't end with blood. The demon blood addiction. Injury. Familial woes. Blood magicks. Simply the color red. If it can be related to blood, even vaguely? IT'S ON POINT.

BOOST THE SIGNAL

And here's how we play!

Step One (mandatory): Write a three-part prompt.
1.) Pick a setting
2.) Pick an additional character or characters (Sam is assumed, naturally.)
3.) Pick an H/C scenario, with Sam as the focus. Other characters can share the misery, but Sam should get the brunt of it. That's how we roll. :D

You can make as many prompts as your little heart desires, one set per comment, but it would probably work best if kept simple. For instance: 1.) West Virginia 2.) Dean 3.) knives, or 1.) Bobby's Panic Room 2.) Mary 3.) demon blood withdrawal.

Step Two (optional): Fill a prompt!
Participants can choose to make visual art: create a drawing, painting, photomanip, or video based around an offered prompt set. All three points must be addressed. The art can be doodled or extravagantly detailed, artist’s choice. And, of course, Sam should be the primary focus of the h/c. Please reply with your art under the prompt you choose, and either put the art beneath a cut or supply a link to it, with appropriate header and warnings! (See "Posting Guidelines" in the left sidebar.) As subject lines are no more, please begin your fills with the word FILLED and a TITLE in BOLD.

Step Three (optional): Fill a prompt!
Participants could also choose to write a ficlet, again with Sam as the primary victim of our dastardly h/c scenarios. (No minimum or maximum word count is required; just go where the muse takes you, as long or short as you'd like.) Again, please reply with your fic under the chosen prompt set, using the appropriate header and warnings. (See "Posting Guidelines" in the left sidebar.) As subject lines are no more, please begin your fills with the word FILLED and a TITLE in BOLD.

If more than one author or artist wants to work with the same prompt, have at it! The ideal goal is to make a Triple Play, where a prompt set gets both art and fic – the art potentially inspiring the fic or the fic inspiring the art. But no matter how it's sliced, we get lots of delicious Sammy h/c! Have all the fun … at Sam’s expense. ;)

The usual courtesies apply:

Filled: An Ocean Away (1/2)

Trigger warning: Attempted suicide

The sea never changes.

The push and pull of the tides, the crashing of the waves against the sand, the way the sun sparkles on the surface of the ocean--the sea is eternal. The ocean was there long before humans were created and it will be there long after they are gone. It's comforting, so to speak, to look out at the vastness of the cerulean ocean and to feel so small and insignificant in comparison.

Because, really, what is one life versus the gigantic ocean?

You sit on the dock, letting your bare feet dangle over the edge, your toes barely touching the cool water. You shut your eyes and listen to the gulls cry, to the wind that gently whizzes past your ears. The ocean brings peace--tranquility--and you know this.

You're broken inside. The man you're staying with--Bobby--knows this as does the other man who left in huff with a companion in a trench coat.

They're trying to fix you. Put back what was taken from you. Your memories. Without them, you are just a shell of your former self, but you don't grieve. You don't feel anything really. You're empty inside and while that obviously pains those around you, you couldn't care.

It's only here, at the edge of the sea, that you feel something.

"Sam?" There are footsteps on the dock now and you open your eyes and turn to face the gruff, older man, "What are you doing?"

This man is supposed to mean something to you, logically you know that. But seeing him, noticing the concern etched onto his face, you feel nothing. Part of you wonders if you should feel sad about it.

"Sam?"

The ocean is the one constant you have. And if you have to be a shell, wouldn't it make more sense to rest at the bottom of the sea? Logically, if you couldn't be fixed, then you were a burden. You don't want that. Not really. Plus, you know this older man was angry with you in the past. He might still be angry still. You were soulless and tried to kill him? At least, that's what you've been able to piece together.

Shouldn't you end things before they get worse?

Bobby takes a step towards you, "Sam, what are you--?"

But you let your body list to the side and fall into the welcoming blue abyss below.

As you feel your body sink further and further, you let your eyes fall shut. This is way you should die, you think. Not in the fires of Hell where you were before (yes, you had figured that out too because though your memories were gone, the nightmares were still there) but in the salty blue depths that could take you away.

Away from pain. Away from grief.

You didn't want your memories back. Maybe you were a shell, but you were also safe. Getting your memories back would mean feeling that sharp pain once more. And you can't handle that, can you?

Your lungs burn. The sunlight is starting to fade away. Your body jerks in a fight to find oxygen, but there is none. This is the end.

But a calloused hand grips your wrist and before you know what is happening, you're jerked back to the surface. As you break free of the waves, your body coughs, gasping for air and you find yourself being pulled to the shore of warm sand.

"What the hell are you trying to do?" Bobby growls as he hits your back with enough force to dislodge any remaining water in your body. "You trying to give me a goddamn heart attack?"

He's angry. You failed. Again.

"Answer me, ya idjit!" Bobby grips your wet shirt and forces you to meet his gaze and it surprises you to see grief in those eyes and not fury.

"I . . ." Your voice is so rough, so harsh sounding to your own ears. "I'm broken."

Bobby sighs raggedly, "No, Sam, you're not."

And when he pulls you to him in some sort of rough hug, you feel something stir within your dormant heart. Love. Acceptance. Family.

Family don't end with blood.

"We'll get your memories back, I promise. Just . . . don't do that again! If I'd have lost you . . ."

You're important. You matter. Those two realizations send a shock through your system.

And when you find yourself hugging him back, you think that maybe, just maybe, you're worth putting yourself back together again.

So heartbreaking, and I love the second person POV, it works really well with Sam's memory loss. The ending was all kinds of perfect, seeing Bobby save Sam and remind him that he does matter, that is important and loved. Thank you for sharing :)

Lovely! And sad in the best way. I loved the line: "But a calloused hand grips your wrist and before you know what is happening, you're jerked back to the surface. As you break free of the waves, your body coughs, gasping for air and you find yourself being pulled to the shore of warm sand. " It's just the right mix of sensory experience and depersonalize. Excellent second person too!
