I love how Dean is still pretty much himself, but we still can see the Sammy-shaped-void inside his personality!! and Cas is awesome!! Strong and decisive... he is still kind of otherworldly in spite of being human for more than 200 years, so maybe he has been holding on into his angel-ness in order to keep his strength?
It's kind of heartbreaking that Cas is unable to trust Dean, but that got me thinking. He can't trust Dean because he once said yes and he is worried he would say it again? or because once a vessel says yes the angel can posses it without ever asking again? Dean is an unwilling spy!!
Also, I wish he had Dean told him about Michael, I kind of hoped he trusted Castiel by gut instinct (he fell for you, damn it!!). It looks clear to me that Michael is waiting for Dean to discover whatever Michael wants to know (maybe Sam's whereabouts? That would explain why Cas said that Sam was dead, eventhough it's obvious Sam simply can't *stay* dead) and then take over again! As all archangels, he is a manipulative bastard that make it look like he is the one who cares most about Dean in order to obtain what he wants!
Really, the interaction between both characters is priceless. For the whole chapter Cas keeps talking with Dean with a very interesting and conflicting mix of emotions: sadness, bitterness, regret, pity, fondness, resentment... and there is a HUGE distance between them!! And that last scene was the climax!! I could see how Cas was fighting with himself!! On one side, he wanted to spare Dean the pain of the knowledge of what he did, and on the other side he thinks Dean deserves to know exactly what he did for that same reason!
They are both dancing around the elephant in the room though. Castiel is very cautious of not mentioning Sam's name, and Dean is actively trying to avoid thinking about having a brother. I wonder if he will remember before of after being confronted with Sam (in a really pitiful state, I fear).
And this part:
"He didn't say yes?" "Never."
It made me feel so PROUD that it brought tears to my eyes. That's our Sam, going on in spite of having lost all hope!!

You're right about a few things and wrong about others. Heh. I'll tell you this: You're right about Sam being generally awesome.

And yep, Sam being all kinds of awesome is something we definitely agree on!! As for the rest, I'll be waiting patiently to discover in which I'm right and in which I'm wrong! (and probably coming with even more wrong theories).
By the way, I just saw you went over 20.000 in your bigbang!! congratulations!! Even if the story is not finished yet, at least you don't have to worry about word counting anymore!
