SPOILERS: Technically, the story is set within Season 9, post trial-related fallout, but is a standalone case-fic–no spoilers–and may become slightly AU depending on what happens in Tuesday’s Season 9 premiere. Right now, though, it fits within canon. Written to fill the ‘Job-related Injury’ square in my hc_bingo card.

Summary: A year after Sherlock Holmes's death John Watson returns to 221B Baker Street hoping to turn a new leaf. He finds that a new stranger has come to town—while John was gone Sam Winchester moved in to the flat below. John's interest is piqued, but he isn't the only one curious in the household. Both men are trying to come to terms with their past, but as is often the case the past refuses to stay away. Sam and John are taken on a journey where adventures and revelations are going to put new and old relationships to test.
Spoilers: Up to the first half of season 8 of 'Supernatural'. For all episodes of 'Sherlock'.
Warnings: Language, disturbing images and themes, i.e. non-explicit violence, mentions of off-screen torture, suicide and mental-health trauma, etc. Nothing that can't be found on at least one of the shows, including some homoerotic subtext.

Author's Notes: I'd like to apologize in advance if the final chapters take a bit over a week to post. This one is practically a double chapter and I expect the same with the remaining ones. I'm close to exhausted, my back's been in pain and RL is quite busy. The last thing I want is to be careless with my 'baby' at the very end! I've been re-living the final scenes in my head for months and I want to do them justice. I'd like to enjoy the last steps of my Epic journey, too, not to mention offer you all a worthy ending as a big thank you for giving my story a try.
