Written for the following prompt at ohsam:

Sam is acting weird. Forgetting things, occasional bouts of aphasia or spouting gibberish, dizziness, and it's very quickly getting worse. All unexplained occurrences. Until Dean insists he see a doctor and Sam is diagnosed as having rapid early onset dementia, already very advanced and likely caused by the numerous head injuries he's had over the years. Or is it? Dean won't accept that Sam, the brother he's protected all his life, might soon be lost to him. Dean looks for a miracle cure and even thinks a witch's spell might be behind it. All the while, Sam is aware he's losing chunks of himself and he's scared, tortured by the knowledge that he will lose his memories, his intelligence, and become an empty shell, a burden to Dean for the rest of his life. He considers/tries suicide maybe.



Whether Dean is successful in finding a cure or not is up to the writer, but just no miracle angel cures. This is kind of a dual hurt/comfort story.

Summary: After Sam's seizure, Cas shows up at the bar where Dean's drinking himself stupid and demands his attention and immediate return. Dean, of course, panics.

In a second, Dean is at his brother's side. When they were little, they sparred. They both took some punches. This isn't just-got-punched-in-the-face Sam, though. This is something else.

He looks exhausted, eyes sunken and bruised, and there's blood on his lips and in the corners of the mouth, flecks of it still lingering in places down his chin (Cas later tells him that he tried to wash most of it way). He looks pale as death, near-transparent and dwarfed by a big, rough blanket.

Summary: The fist connects before Sam even realizes it's coming. His teeth grind together with an ugly sound. His mouth tastes like chalk, like dust and brightness. Then the taste is gone, replaced with the penny-sharp flavor of blood, and he spits it out at Dean without thinking.

His older brother steps back, wipes the fine spatter of blood from his cheek and brow, and offers Sam a cold smile. "I'm gonna go out, Sam. I'm gonna get a drink, because if I stay in this house with you, I might just kill you."

Prompt: Gen, season 6. After a huge fight, an angry Dean takes off. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but Sam suffers a huge seizure right after and Castiel has to take care of him.
