Realizing that at this time Dean was not at all in a good place, even remotely, and was like two steps from caving in to Michael, I WANTED TO SHAKE HIM FOR THE ENTIRE FIC. Mostly because DEAN. HONEY. You know who made Sam relapse? A HORSEMAN OF THE APOCALYPSE. That means he's not just going to go on a binge at random! HE DIDNT EVEN RELAPSE THAT BADLY, DEAN. HE DIDNT TAKE IT WHEN FAMINE OFFERED. Just...gah. I want to shake him until he sees sense again!
And I kind of want to shake Sam too, for thinking "Oh its ok, I'll die and then Lucifer will put me back together and Dean can just go on thinking I fell off the wagon and never know that I got hit by a car." SAM, THIS IS NOT A GOOD PLAN.
Bobby is my hero in this. I BOW DOWN TO YOU, VOICE OF REASON, FOR BEING RIGHT IN ALL WAYS EVEN THOUGH THE WINCHESTERS ARE TOO STUBBORN TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT.
Basically this was just a zillion different kinds of heartbreaking and awesome and just generally ruled. It was spot-on with the tone of that part of the season (heartbreaking) and was just all sorts of beautifully done. I loved it.
