Dean wakes up to the sound of his motel door creaking open. It’s Sam, bleary-eyed and shell-shocked Sam, who doesn’t flinch at the name of God, exorcisms, holy water, or at any other invocation from heaven or hell that Dean comes up with.

This time from the ohsam   Happy Birthday, Sam comment fic meme. khakigrrl requested: It’s been a few years since the Apocalypse and Sam and Dean have settled down. Dean's engaged and Sam's finally relaxed enough to take a chance on dating again. Then, one night Sam has a dream filled with death, despair, and demons. Is it a vision or just a PTSD symptom? Is Sam willing to take the chance?
Author’s Note II: So, I had one of those non-linear, rambling ideas for this thing. Figured there’d be a few short back and forth scenes and that’d be that. Apparently, my brain has more to say on this subject than I thought. I have no idea how long this will end up being. This will probably flip back and forth between times, but hopefully it won’t be too confusing. Also, there’s passing references to an earlier fic of mine – Wish You Were Here. You don’t need to read it for this. It’s just where Gemma was introduced and will at some point refer to a knee injury Dean suffered in that fic.
Author’s Note III (the really pathetic version): You might find yourself having a couple “WTF, how is that even possible” reactions here and there. Be patient with me. Explanations will be forthcoming.
