Characters: Sam, Dean, Castiel (minor appearances by Charlie Bradbury, Crowley, Kevin Tran and Amelia Richardson)
Word count: ~800 for the prologue
Summary: Sam and Dean are brothers again. That's what matters, right? They just need to figure out a way to pull Sam back on his feet now. Except this time, it's not that easy. And there's Castiel, who is now human: a broken human. Soon, the two most important people in Dean's life are fading away, and there's nothing he can do about it.
Spoilers: Through to 8.23, Sacrifice, but AU following Sacrifice.
Warnings: Sexual situations (not explicit), strong profanity, sensitive health topics
Notes: The fic idea came to me while I was studying internal medicine and DDx-ing Sam in my mind. And I decided to make a story out of one of the conclusions I drew about what he could be suffering from. This fic, therefore, will focus mostly on Sam's health, and Sam and Dean's (very brotherly) relationship after episode 8.23, Castiel being human, and some Destiel here and there. However, please remember that this is NOT a season 9 speculation fic, and is pretty much AU. A lot of time has passed since 8.23 in the prologue, but chapter 1 will pick up from where the episode ended.
