Following the results of the poll we took last month (don't make it easy on us or anything, guys, haha!), we've decided to hold a comment fic meme once every three months. This gives everyone time to write and prompt to their heart's content, and allows us mods to keep up with y'all. And we're starting right now!

THE RULES

→ Leave a comment here with your prompt. This is a Sam-focused hurt/comfort community, so Sam should be the one in the hurt/comforted role. Your prompts may involve sick!Sam, hurt!Sam, angsty!Sam, basically anything that results in Sam being on the receiving end of hurt/comfort. (No rules against whumping other characters as well, of course, but you have to whump Sam first. ;) )
→ In your prompt, please state your desired characters or pairings. All genres/pairings welcome, but no real-person (RPF) prompts.

Example A: “Sam, Dean, gen, set in season 2. Sam has a vision and passes out. Cue caring!Dean and limp!Sam.”
Example B: “Sam/Dean, trauma. Sam is injured on a hunt, Dean freaks out when he thinks Sam might be dead.”

What if the cage were timeless, or outside of time, and returning to time after being timeless had major repercussions? Physiological, where all Sam's heart rate and breathing rhythms and such were fouled up; psychological, where he no longer knows how to follow a conversation or text or train of thought consecutively without jumping about. Go wild: anything from nausea and dizziness to psychosis. Maybe strong rhythms, like waves or music with a regular beat, help ground him. Or sex, if you wanted to go the pairing route.

Post-6.22. One comparatively minor issue in the mile-long list of all the ways Sam's been screwed up by the destruction of the Wall is the fact that he can't shave himself anymore. But it's eating at him, not just because he's irritated by the way being unshaven looks and feels so much as it is the principle of it-- the fact that he's so freaking scared to do something that used to be so easy before. But so much as touching a razor freaks him out because of all the unpleasant associations he now has with razors and blades in general, let alone scraping one across his face, and he can't get over it. Dean realizes it's upsetting him and decides to help out.

He comes down with a really horrific case of the 'flu: fever, chills, that nasty cough that settles right in your chest and makes it hurt to breathe, aching muscles, the whole nine yards. Dean knows how to deal with Sam when he's sick, but Robo!Sam is a whole other matter. How do you take care of a guy who not only views this sickness as just an annoying inconvenience and resists any and all forms of caretaking, but also can't/won't sleep which is the main thing that would help?

Basically, Adam really really doesn't want to care and holds onto his resentment for dear life, but Sam is all psychotic and hopeless so it's kind of hard. Cue grudging compassion and Adam dragging Sam around the country, hitchhiking with truckers and stuff while trying to keep Sam's lunacy on the down-low, in search of anyone else who wants to take him, anyone at all. When he finally gets his chance to be rid of Sam for good and for keeps, he barely has one foot out the door before he notices Dean/Bobby/the psychiatric nurse/whoever trying to calm Sam down and doing it all wrong. Breaking up is so hard to do.

Dean, unfortunately, is an untrained eye, and the inter-dimensional being who might have formerly conveniently let Dean in on the secret is currently off playing God somewhere. So, Dean is going to go with the “Sam hallucinates ALL THE TIME” theory and acts accordingly. Does he ever figure it out?

What torments Sam most about his memories of the Cage, after he gets a tenuous grip on the flashbacks and fear, is how he broke there: in the worst way a Winchester could possibly break. He remembers wishing Dean was there instead of him. Dean assumes that Sam is miserable and ashamed because of something done to him, instead of anything he'd done, and Sam is inconsolable. Does Dean ever figure it out? Can Sam ever move on?

As many cellars, abandoned houses, rotting warehouses, and other manky spaces as these guys have run through, I figure their chances of getting tagged have to be pretty high. Sam has a run-in with Lactodectrus mactrans, which in turn leads to all the fun and joy of latrodectism. Dean's there to do the motel rool triage (and the big brother thing) when the agonizing full-body cramps set in, of course. Mega-super bonus points and my eternal love for some kind of background plot, especially if it gives Sam occasion to be awesome, but mainly, I'd just love to see him in agony from Black Widow venom.

After being in the Cage, Sam can't even really tell when he's been hurt, no matter how bad it is. He'll get hurt in a hunt and not know till Dean freaks and tells him he's bleeding. He'll wander off barefoot, lost in his head, and Dean will wake up and run after him. His feet will be all cut up and bloody and Dean's panicking that he doesn't know what's wrong with his brother and doesn't know how to help him. Gen preferred.

Sam is a bit shell-shocked after a hunt (maybe an innocent person dies? Someone he knew/got to know?) and has blood on his hands, arms, and face. Thus, Dean has to gently remove his clothes, get him into the shower, get in after him, and bathe him. Sam, still very much out of it, is highly compliant. Afterwards, Dean gets him dressed and into bed. Maybe he cuddles with him, and/or tries to coax him out of his stupor.

By all rights he should be in bed, but people are dying and bones need to be burned and Dean can't do it alone. So here they are, in the middle of a forest in the pouring rain, trying to light a stupid match because of course the lighter fluids all gone...you get the idea, right? One of those no good, pain in the ass, nothing going right, suck-the-life-from-your-bones days. Grumbling but protective Dean would be awesome.

I used to sleep-walk, and the things I did in my sleep? Freaking nuts. I even made it out of the house once. So I couldn't resist this.

At first neither of them realized what’s actually been happening. They’d go to sleep and in the morning things would have mysteriously moved around the room. Sam’s laptop moves from the wobbly table to the foot of Dean’s bed. Their duffle bags are dug through as if someone was looking for something specific. Even the newspapers that Sam fell asleep with ending up in a neat pile next to the television set.

After a few nights of things being moved around, and moving motels each time it happened they gave up. If it was a burglar they weren’t taking anything and if the rooms were haunted the ghosts were malicious.

It takes one night, in the middle of the snowy mountain to have everything cleared up. Sam was sleep-walking. Full on zombie walking and speaking in tongues sleep walking.

Who knows how Sam even got through the locks on the door, much less didn’t wake up from standing in snow but there he was; just standing there.

“Sam!” Dean tugged his jacket tighter around his chest as he slipped on a pair of boots, not bothering to look and see if they were his or Sam’s. When Sam didn’t even acknowledge him Dean let out a growl and trudged through the snow. Sam’s skin was chapped from the cold breeze and Dean didn’t even want to think about Sam’s bare feet. “Sam, dude, what are you doing?”

Sam spun around and started mumbling, mumbling in a language or something. Dean couldn’t understand him but that’s when he realized Sam was asleep. “Oh hell, come on man.”

Dean nudged Sam to get him to start moving to the motel room. As soon as he got the door shut and locked he tackled Sam with blankets and checked his feet in case there was any damage done. Once he was satisfied Dean curled up next to Sam underneath the covers. He rolled his eyes at how god damned peaceful Sam looked. “You’re a fucking freak man.”

Painless Sam

Due to a curse, Sam doesn't feel any pain (for a week or so). Problem is - pain is a protective mechanism. But without feeling any pain, Sam isn't careful. He cuts himselfs, someone shot him, he sprains his ankle, burns his hand, gets a cold and so on - up to you.
But when the curse has run its course, all pain hits Sam at once...

When the last thing you remember is jumping into hell with Lucifer, and you wake up alone in the room where you've spent quality time detoxing from demon blood, it must be unnerving, as well as disorienting. But the door is open, you're not tied down, so maybe it's OK. Except you have a confused memory that the last time that door was conveniently open and you went out it terrible things happened. You stand at the open door and listen for a minute and you hear a voice upstairs and it sounds like Dean and for a moment you think it's all OK, but then someone answers the voice and it sounds like Bobby and you know that Bobby is dead, you snapped his neck, so . . .

The brothers get into a bit of a fight (nothing too serious) and are trying to stay mad at each other. They have been on the road for too long and Sam's lower back starts to cramp badly at being cramped in the car so long. Since they are not in speaking terms, Sam doesn't tell Dean anything but when Dean stops for gas, Sam gets out and fails to bit back the moan of pain when he stands up. Que to guilty and very caring Dean, trying his best to make Sam comfortable.

Dean can always get him back, talk him back into his memories, but every time it happens there are these few moments when Dean can see everything crashing back, the hell memories, the robo!Sam memories, the just plain Sam's life memories. It's hard to watch. Sometimes Dean just wants to put that moment off, maybe forever. See if Sam could have a fresh start. Maybe he'd never remember. But he promised Sam he would never do that. I want a bit of Dean struggling with the urge to make decisions for Sam in this; from 6.21, I think it would be a temptation for him.

Post-6.22. There is a way to fix the wall- maybe Cas does it or maybe it's a spell that Dean and Bobby find, up to you- but it comes with a price. In order to hold and maintain himself, the wall literally draws from Sam's physical energy and strength. So Sam's psyche is intact once more and he can't remember a thing about hell, and for once he's experiencing a measure of inner peace. The problem? He's weak, sick all the time, with an immune system shot to hell. Dean's scared to death for him, worried that the wall is going to cost Sam his life, but honestly? Sam's just happy to be back.

Castiel had great admiration for Dean Winchester, but he was beginning to wonder if he wasn’t, perhaps, a bit oblivious.

“Sam does not look well,” he said, because Sam did not. There were dark circles under his eyes and he seemed hunched in on himself. He looked even thinner than the last time Castiel had had occasion to observe the Winchesters closely, and Castiel was relatively certain that those muffled noises were poorly disguised, dry-hacking coughs. It was just him and Dean tonight; Sam was out getting dinner, or pie, or something. Dean looked up from the gun he was dismantling.

“What?”

Castiel held back a sigh. At times Dean’s apparent lack of regard could be…frustrating. Sam assured him it was nothing personal, and it did not seem to be, but nonetheless. “I said, Sam does not look well,” he tried again.

Dean shrugged, apparently losing interest. “Does anyone, these days?”

“I believe he may be ill,” Castiel said. Dean went back to checking small metal pieces.

“Sam’s fine,” Dean said. “I’d know, okay?”

“But can you be sure,” Castiel started to object, and Dean gave him an annoyed glance.

“Look, if Sam were sick, he’d be whining like nobody’s business. That’s what he does when he’s sick. He hasn’t said anything, so that’s how I know he’s fine. Leave me alone, Cas, I’m trying to concentrate.”

Castiel was not entirely sure he was convinced. In the past year, he could not seem to recall Sam whining in his hearing once, though he was quite sure that in at least a few cases it might have been warranted. Perhaps it was nothing. After all, he still knew so little about humans.

When Sam returned, he looked pale, and Castiel noticed that he only pretended to eat. Then again, that might have had more to do with the quality of the food. Even Dean glared at it suspiciously.

“Jesus,” he said. “What is this crap?”

“Sorry,” said Sam, sounding unreasonably contrite, and was that a hint of a rasp? “It was all I could find that was open.” He looked down at the plastic container and pushed his salad around with a fork.

“Aren’t you hungry, Sam?” he inquired, finally, and Sam jumped a little, as Castiel had noticed he always seemed to do when spoken to by just about anyone. As though he were perhaps expecting something else. He wondered about that.

“What? Oh, uh, yeah,” Sam said hurriedly, and picked up a forkful of leaves and stuck it in his mouth, and Castiel could see him trying not to grimace. “Just distracted, I guess.”

Dean, meanwhile, was staring at his own dinner in disgust and appeared to have noticed nothing. Perhaps he would just have to handle this on his own.

In the middle of the night, Sam got up and vomited (very quietly) into the toilet in the bathroom. Castiel rose from his state of contemplation and stuck his head through the open doorway. Sam was folded on the ground with his cheek against the porcelain, his face pale and sweaty. He looked supremely miserable.

"Just tell me!" he roars, and Dean rushes to his side. "Tell me they're okay!"

"Sammy, it's okay, I'm okay, see? Achy, but okay!" The car crash is running through his mind now, and he wonders why his brother is so panicked. "Just relax, they're going to get you some help!"

"Are they even alive?" Sam bellows, struggling against his bonds. One eye and one ear are covered and he's strapped down as a precautionary measure, and he's freaked out.

"Sammy, c'mon, let them do their job...." Dean's voice dies away as he sees them load their father into a nearby helicopter. He swallows hard, and crawls up into it when he sees them load Sam in as well.

Sam is still struggling. Still yelling. Now he's crying. Dean feels horrible for him.

The doors close and a double thump sounds. The blades whir and Dean feels the helicopter rise.

He swallows hard and bends over Sam, running his fingers along the back of his hand. "Relax, huh? Shshshshsh, it'll be okay...."

Sam sobs, "Dean.....Dad....."

"I know, he's a mess. But it'll be okay. You'll see."

"Dean...." Sam's voice trails off. "G-d, Dean...don't do this to me....."

Dean frowns. "Do what?"

Sam closes his eyes and gives into visible grief.

Dean frowns and turns to look over his shoulder.

And sees himself lying strapped to a third gurney. He swallows hard and turns back to Sam.

And realises that Sam can't see or hear him.

He can't comfort his baby brother.

This is hell on earth.

Embarrassed, frightened, and angry, Sam has to go back to the motel and tell Dean the truth.

Cue sympathetic!caring!Dean, and a cure, purifying ritual, or confrontation to get the kids to reverse it.

Panic room as punishment

Dean convinces Bobby to let him keep Sam in the panic room, even after he's clean. Dean sees it as a fitting punishment when he realizes that Sam is terrified of the room. He begins to use the room against Sam, threatening to lock him in there if he so much as blinks wrong. Cue meek and sad Sam traveling with his brother, terrified to even breath loudly for fear his brother will lock him in the room.

After one nasty hunt where everything goes wrong, Dean does the unthinkable and drags Sam to Bobby's where he locks him in the room, angry and taking it out on his brother he leaves to drink his sorrows away. Sam screams for hours until Bobby/Castiel show up and realize what Dean has done. Cue guilty!angsty!Dean as he realizes just what an asshole he has been. I would love it to end on a happy note please :) with plenty of H/C!

AU to 5.01. Dean and Sam still end up on that plane, with one difference- Sam still had all that demon blood in his system. So now, in addition to Dean having to deal with his completely canon feelings that Sam had betrayed him on every level imaginable by going after Lilith, he has to witness Sam going through the mother of all detoxes and help him through the aftermath. Dean's furious at Sam but worried--after all, Ruby said in the ep that Sam had consumed enough to destroy himself-- and when Sam isn't completely out of it, he's reeling from the realization of what he's done in killing Lilith, beyond ashamed of himself, and confused as to why Dean's bothering to help him at all. It's not like he's not getting exactly what was coming to him. And while Dean thinks he might agree with Sam there, it isn't like he can ignore his big-brother instincts....Things are understandably awkward. Oh, and they've got a little thing called the apocalypse on their hands.

Sam is born either blind or deaf (author's choice). When he's returned to life, either post-AHBL or in s6, the being who brought him back 'fixed' what was wrong. So he's dealing with an onslaught of info from a sense he's never had before, and needless to say it's completely overwhelming. Dean has to be with him 24/7 to help him cope.

When Sam's a teen, a hunt goes horrible wrong and Sam has to have both arms and legs amputated. Prosthetics aren't an option. Dean takes care of him almost 24/7. Sam feels guilty that Dean can't go off an be the hunter he always wanted to be. He feels even worse when he starts to get bigger and heavier and Dean still has to carry him sometimes and lift him. Sam's utterly depressed, but Dean tries to comfort him. Maybe Sam has some body horror related to his condition, which isn't helped by other people staring. John can be involved, but no abusive, mean John. He can be awkward in handling Sammy, but not intentionally mean. Wincest or Gen.

Post 6.22. Sam, Dean, maybe Bobby?

After assimilating the memories and experiences of being locked in a small dimensional pocket with two unfathomably enraged wavelengths of celestial intent and one long-lost half-brother for 150+ years, Sam has had a change of perspective. A week of waiting seems like an eye-blink. Days trapped in the car in Texas at 120 degrees apparent heat? No biggie. Out of money and out of food? Fine. Monster threatening Dean's life? They've both had worse. Nothing that can fit in a history book seems like a big deal to Sam anymore.

Dean sees Sam cutting himself off from the world, only taking care of himself when he has to, burrowing into Bobby's library, vanishing for weeks at a time and returning like nothing's happened, talking about where they want to spend their afterlives like they've got a choice and they've only got months left to live. Dean doesn't know quite what to make of it, but he's got an inkling, and he knows, whatever Sam says to the contrary, that Sam's really not okay.

But how's Dean going to get through to someone who's technically three times his age now?

So people are all the time thinking Dean and Sam are criminals, right, and with their habit if being places illegally who could really blame them afterall. So what happens when someone mistaking them, or just Sam, for said criminals fights back with mace/pepper spray right into puppy's eyes? Could also maybe add few body shots, self-defence 101 style (nothing causing permanent damage like a key to the eye, etc, though). Cue Dean trying to step in and explain things and get the good citizen to stop pummeling his poor, teary eyed little bro. Cue also big bro taking care of little bro though not without some typical Dean teasing of said little bro. :-D Gen, please.

I apologize for the weirdness of this.

When Death re-souls Sam it doesn't quite stick. Every once in a while his soul slips free (maybe after a seizure?), his body walking around being a dick and not sleeping, while he gets to do the vengeful spirit gig for a couple of hours/days/weeks—it can vary—though he's not so much vengeful as disoriented and crazy, given the wall doesn't extend to his spirit form. So you have Dean, who sees all this redrum-on-the-mirrors chaos randomly breaking out around them, and Sam looking unsettlingly determined to banish the completely anonymous—“its identity is really not important, Dean, promise”—spirit that's latched onto him for no apparent reason, while trying to look all souled and innocent and kind of sucking at it. Whether or not Dean figures it out is up to the author. As is the winner.

Crack, horror, happy or angtsy ending: it's all good. Any pairing/genre.
